4chan Rejects UK's Online Safety Act, Faces £18 million Fine

The online forum 4chan has engaged legal counsel to formally reject implementing the UK’s new age verification mandates. 4chan had already announced its intention in January to refuse to comply with any form of compulsory age verification requirements for its users. According to the new UK law, Ofcom may impose fines of up to £18 million or 10% of a company’s global annual turnover, whichever is higher. An official Ofcom notice announced the regulator’s intention to fine 4chan for failing to “comply with two statutory information requests.” Other reports indicate potential daily penalties of £20,000 for 4chan. Ofcom also confirmed that it’s continuing to investigate the case, demanding that 4chan: adequately responds to a statutory information request; complete and keep a record of a suitable and sufficient illegal content risk assessment; and comply with the safety duties regarding illegal content. Delaware-based 4chan, under the leadership of Japanese owner Hiroyuki Nishimu...

Nevada Confirms Data Theft After Statewide Cyberattack

Malicious actors targeted Nevada’s networks and services in a recent ransomware-based cyberattack. Local authorities confirmed that the incident disrupted websites, phone lines, and forced state offices to close. An ongoing investigation has revealed that some data was exfiltrated from the state’s network. The office of Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo shared a post on the social media platform X on Monday, informing the public about the disruption. “On early Sunday morning, the State of Nevada identified a network security incident and immediately engaged in 24/7 recovery efforts,” states the memo. “As the State continues its recovery efforts, the network security incident continues to impact the availability of certain state technology systems on the state network. Some state websites or phone lines may be slow or briefly unavailable during recovery.” State offices were shut down earlier this week, and employees were placed on administrative leave as multiple buildings were closed. ...

21.3 Million PrestaShop Customer Details for Sale on Dark Web

According to multiple reports, a threat actor is attempting to sell the stolen data of over 21.3 million PrestaShop users on a dark web forum. Potential buyers can already view a subset of the data for free before deciding whether to bid on the entire database. The data obtained in the breach purportedly contains personally identifiable information (PII), such as full names, company names, addresses, phone numbers, VAT numbers, DNIs, and customer IDs in SQL schema format, as per SOCrader . The sellers themselves attribute the hack to another organization, and it’s not yet clear where exactly it came from. Brinztech researchers previously reported on threat actors obtaining unauthorized access to 126 PrestaShop stores and selling this information online. However, it has not been confirmed whether the newly discovered data that’s up for sale originated from the same breach. PrestaShop has also not commented on the matter thus far. However, the popular open-source e-commerce platform...

Hackers Exploit Google Classroom to Target 13,500 Organizations

Researchers from the cybersecurity firm Check Point revealed that hackers had been exploiting Google Classroom to distribute over 115,000 phishing emails. The cybercriminals targeted approximately 13,500 organizations in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America. According to the report published by Check Point, the attackers sent fake invitations containing commercial offers from Google Classroom accounts in five separate waves over the course of a week. By creating fraudulent classrooms on Google’s platform, the malicious actors were able to send deceptive emails from accounts that included the “classroom.google.com” domain in the address. “The deception works because security systems tend to trust messages originating from legitimate Google services,” explained the researchers. “By piggybacking on Google Classroom’s infrastructure, attackers were able to bypass certain traditional security layers, attempting to reach inboxes at more than 13,500 companies before defenses ...

UK's Children's Commissioner Urges VPN Restrictions for Youth

The UK’s Children’s Commissioner has filed a petition with the government to restrict VPN use for minors to prevent circumvention of age verification requirements under the Online Safety Act. This comes in response to a 6,000% increase in the demand for VPNs immediately following the Online Safety Act’s enforcement of the rule. Implemented in July 2025, the law aims to curb exposure to harmful content for users under the age of 18 in the UK. This includes content deemed sexually explicit, violent, abusive, and promoting self-harm, stereotypes, or dangerous activities. The broad definition of these terms meant that it not only applies to “adult” sites but also to social media like Facebook, X, and Reddit . Platforms are now required to implement “robust” age verification policies or face hefty fines or serious legal challenges. Many have already resorted to various forms of photo ID, often outsourcing these processes to third parties. This has caused intense concern among the publi...
